Four Tips for Building a Small Business Brand with Video

Small businesses thrive off of the support from their community. Whether you’re a local brick-and-mortar business or a content creator, using video is the most effective way to hold your customers’ attention. In this post, I’ll share my top tips for growing your small business brand with video marketing.

1. Share often

When it comes to growing your brand, you need to share videos often! Sharing videos regularly makes it easy to build a relationship with your customers and include them in your business’s journey and growth. They’ll start to trust and get familiar with you because you’re showing up frequently for them with each new video post and people will feel more comfortable purchasing from you because they’ll begin to know, like, and trust you.

If creating videos frequently sounds overwhelming, start by releasing one video a month, on your website and social media platforms, and work your way up to at least one video a week. As you create more and more content, you’ll get into the flow of it, you’ll learn what your customers are connecting with and the type of videos they want to see more of from your brand.

2. Diversify your video content

You absolutely shouldn’t limit the styles of your videos to just sales pieces that directly promote why your business is so great because people will get sick of those fast, so here are some other video options to start with; a simple ‘About Us’ video will let people know what your brand’s all about, what your values are and why you do what you do. ‘About Us’ videos are the perfect opportunity to share your business’s personality, and showcase what makes your company unique and awesome.

To create more credibility with your audience, share authentic testimonial videos; ask your customers to share their stories about working with your business; how your company helped solve a problem for them, and what their experience was like working with your team. Sharing testimonial videos is a form of word-of-mouth marketing and people are more likely to trust others saying great things about your brand than you boosting about it.

Creating how-to videos relating to your product or service is a really effective way to get more eyes on your brand and people wanting to see additional videos from you, which means your business stays top of mind. Sharing tips on aspects of how people can use your product more efficiently or how to practice aspects of a service you offer, builds more loyalty from your customers because it is a form of customer service and further establishes you as an expert!

3. Provide value

No matter what style of videos you release, jam-pack them with as much value as possible, and cut anything that isn’t adding value. If you re-watch your edited video and get bored and want to skip through, your viewer probably would do the same thing so if it doesn’t need to be in the video, get it outta there! Overall, videos used to grow your brand should be anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 minutes in length, depending on the style of the video; If you’re creating content that needs to be more in-depth, like, a how-to video where your viewer should be able to follow along, then a longer video is fine.

In every single video you release, include a call to action! Let viewers know what you want them to do after watching the video. This can be subscribing to your channel, following your brand on other social media accounts, or clicking the buy button for the product you’re selling. One of the biggest mistakes small businesses make is not getting comfortable promoting their business. You need to be proactive and promote your brand; no one is going to do it for you and if someone is watching your videos, they’re doing so because they like your brand, and they likely want to continue to engage with it.

4. Get some help

If you have little or no experience with producing videos, I highly suggest working with a video pro or video crew, because you have enough going on, especially if you’re going to be on camera yourself and especially in the early stages of creating videos. As your company creates more videos, you’ll get an idea on whether sticking with a pro video team works best for producing your content, or if you can pick up tips and tricks from them to start filming videos yourself. Using stock media in your videos is a great option to make them look professional without breaking the bank and Storyblocks has a huge library of stock media available with the click of a button.

Whether you have a smartphone and are a bit experienced or hire a video production crew, using video to build your business is ranked as one of the most effective ways to market and build your brand! Create videos that best suit your customer needs, be sure to promote your business, and consistently release videos to continue to grow as a business.
